The Bush Council Rally - Armidale - April 2015

We had a great trip to Armidale and really enjoyed the Bush Council Rally. It gave us the chance to meet members from many other car clubs (including Allan Mead from the Central Coast who is the organiser of the National Motoring Heritage Day at The Entrance).

The rally began on Friday 3 April, and was organised by the Classic & Specialist Car Club of Northern NSW. Our very own HOCA member David Carey, was the Rally Director.

Following a leisurely three day drive from Shellharbour via Muswellbrook, Quirindi & Tamworth, we checked in at rally headquarters on Friday afternoon to be given our rally pack. This was  followed by an informal dinner at the local bowling club, where we had the opportunity to meet and chat with other club members.

On Saturday the cars were displayed at Armidale Racecourse, ironically the first wet day in Armidale since Christmas 2014! And boy oh boy, wasn't it wet! A scrumptious morning tea was provided before some members took the opportunity to visit the historic Suamarez homestead. Dinner that night  was held at the RSL club and included entertainment by an Elvis impersonator, which was a lot of fun.

Sunday saw us travelling along the picturesque  back roads to Uralla for another display and a walk around this cute little township. It was a very enjoyable  way to spend the day (which was was now warm and sunny). Sunday dinner was followed by raffles and trophy presentations.

The CSCC members, following the theme “A Step Back in Time”, dressed in period costume of the 1820’s throughout the weekend. The organisation of the rally was excellent, with some very trying weather conditions,  and everyone seemed to have a great time.

On our way home we stopped at Port Macquarie and had the chance to visit HOCA member Garry Kelly. Garry has a 1955 Minx sedan on conditional registration and a 1955 Californian nearing complete restoration. Garry also has a beautifully restored 1952 Fordson well side pickup which he brought with him from New Zealand, which is one of only two in Australia. Garry’s cars and some information about them will soon be on the website. It was great to meet one of our country members who we rarely get the chance to see.

Those attending: Mae & Paul (62 Superminx). Sadly, Brian got as far as Uralla when his Imp developed gearbox trouble and had to be towed to David’s, who generously took charge of repairs, with Brian returning home on the train to send up another gearbox. We hope to see his Imp out and about again very soon!
